Improve Your Salon’s Bottom Line By Selling Gift Certificates

j0402202.jpg

Is your salon selling gift certificates? You should be. Gift certificates can be the biggest money making opportunity your salon has this holiday season. Easy to use and give, gift certificates can do wonders to grow your salon business. tag

Increase your referral business.

When you sell gift certificates to your current clients for gift giving, they will be sending their family and friends in to experience everything they love about your salon, giving you the perfect opportunity to turn those one time gift certificate redeemers into repeat clients. Create some signage to give your clients some ideas.

1. Buy one, get one half price. Give one to a friend, keep one for yourself.

2. Treat your Mom to the gift of Indulgence.

3. Gifts for Babysitters, Teachers, Sisters, Grandmothers, Aunts and Nieces.

Sell New Services

Put together some packages at several price points. Packages are a great way to sell services that many women consider luxuries and may not be willing to pay for when money is tight. But luxuries are the perfect gift. You just need a way to get the word out. Print up your special packages in beautiful language with price points and display them around the salon. Send an email blast to your clients and business contacts with your holiday specials. Be sure to mention that forwarding the email to a potential gift giver is the best way to drop a hint.

An example: Just for the holidays, Salon Moxie’s day of Relaxation and Rejuvenation. Your day will begin with a relaxing deep tissue massage, including our signature Chocolate Peppermint Body Masque, followed by our skin firming revitalizing facial. Relax in our quiet new Spa Pedicure Room, where you can choose from The Martini, The Bellini or The Cosmopolitan Pedicures. You day will conclude with a personalized makeup application and lesson and professional hair styling. Specially priced for holiday gift giving at $175.

Nicer than a new sweater, isn’t it?

You also could offer a hint dropping service in the salon. Ask your clients to give you the name and phone number or email address of someone that might need a gift idea and contact them. I know a salon who sold 200 gift certificates by doing this.

Find Some New Clients

Gift certificates are also a great way to bring new clients into the salon. You could sell them at a discount to real estate agents, restaurants and local businesses to use as client or employee gifts or to use as incentives. You could even give a bunch of $5 or $10 gift certificates away to someone that you know has a ton of contacts – maybe to include in their Christmas cards. Every certificate redeemed is a new client for your salon.

Online Gift Giving

Are you selling gift certificates from your website? Did you know that Christmas Eve and Christmas day are the biggest days for Instant Gift Certificate sales? Savvy salons who are offering buy and print gift certificates online can do thousands of dollars of business while the salon is closed. Panicked gift givers who didn’t plan ahead and need a gift can access your salon’s website and purchase a lovely gift for their wife or girlfriend. Don’t have a website? Check out Stylenet.com. You can have a great looking website up and running in two minutes, and you can be selling online gift certificates for the holidays.

I love your idea of selling gift certificates through a website. I agree with you on make sure you have a interactive website for customers to use. In this market salon owners must use both offline and online marketing techniques to boost their sales and gain customers. Great ideas!
